Skills and Techniques

I have training as a floral designer, and continue my design education by taking current classes and attending the state yearly floral convention. I have a fresh floral wedding design business for wedding couples in the Placerville, Sacramento, and Lake Tahoe, California areas.

I have also educated myself in the skills of metalsmithing, jewelry making, and other art skills as I have an interest in mixed media art.

My Artfire.com shop focuses on alternative bouquets to fresh floral design for weddings. I utilize preserved and dried naturals, balsa (aka sola) wood flowers, raw brass filigree and stampings, copper and metals, beads, minerals, paper, fabric, glass and crystals to create alternative bouquets, bouts, and corsages, as well as other wedding design details.

Get to Know

My wedding floral design style is inspired by eco, organic, zen, vintage, glam, industrial, grunge, goth, art noveau, art deco, eclectic, modern, and streamlined. I am influenced by European and Asian design. One of my clients pointed out to me that she chose me because my design is inspired by the nature of the Sierra foothills: mossy and branchy - true, as I often design wedding flowers under the 18 oak trees in my backyard!

My style is not abundant, frou-frou, over-the-top dripping with flowers look. It is Modern, Organic, and Zen:

Modern as unfussy, clean lines with an eye for repeating patterns and architectural design elements.

Organic as in the harmonious interaction of plant materials, water, fire, wood, glass, metal, and stone.

Zen as in masculine and feminine, hard and soft, ying and yang, edgy and ethereal.

This cuff bracelet is one of my favorite pieces. It started out as sheet copper and different thicknesses of copper wire. I forged it, altered it, applied a patina to it, and cut holes in the sheet copper. The wires I hand forged and shaped to a bracelet shape, then wrapped beautiful AB crystals in varying sizes in the colors found in my natural patina - the very elemental, earthy colors of copper, topaz, blue green, and deep teal. I love using the earth elements in my work - and this embodies fire (torch work), glass (crystals), and metal.

This copper bangle is pure simplicity, very yin-yang to me. I hand forge it and twist it, then form it into a bangle.
