Get to Know
Antonia Lindsey makes visual art & jewelry focusing on reUse materials. "Handmade living has been my way of life since childhood. I've been lucky to learn from teachers who were masters in many methods, some of which have nearly died out. Living with a disability, I enjoy having an online shop as a way to invite the public into my studio. Now, thanks to ArtFire, you can visit me as if you're standing among my tools and materials. I like people to know about the way I fabricate my pieces, and what they are made of, which can include everything from precious stones and reclaimed metal or industrial parts, to handmade and scrap paper, sheet music, fur and other materials. What is equally as important to the product you buy, is the process used to create it. I like art to be accessible, affordable, and available, as an alternative to heal an increasingly virtual world. If you want to reach in and touch my pieces, I've done my job!"
The sawhet owlets in this picture remind me of night pansies in some dark forest (reverse glass painting with genuine gold leaf).
"Fast Bird", made of 98% reUse mixed media was selected for publication in the 2009 Calendar for the Institute on Disablities.
Here's my bench where I do jewelry fabrication.
I learned hand-engraving & enamelling from Max Nixon, trained in Silversmithing during the Arts & Crafts movement. Machine engraving can never equal it's line quality, still in use by European fine watchmakers.
