Distinctive Doggie Duds is the culmination of 20 years of owning my own fine art and fine craft business and a constantly creating mind. It combines my love for dogs and my love of the visual arts.
I adopted 2 dogs named Katie & Maggie from the warm south. However, I have lived in New England and now Indiana, a wee bit colder than there southern homes. It occurred to me that they were going to need coats for the winter. Well, I grew up sewing under my mother's guiding hands and I knew that I could create just the right coat for my slender new dogs. But not just any coat- it needed to be beautiful, functional, and above all- WASHABLE!!! In the process of designing my first coat, I realized that I had a vision for more designs and a vision for a business that I would enjoy. Distinctive Doggie Duds was born! (For those of the younger generation- "duds" refers to fashionable clothes, not something that is a loser or that doesn't work...)
I have a quirky sense of humor and a God-given joy that frequently peeks out in my high quality canine fashions.
Because I love dogs so much, I am collecting photos of my canine customers wearing their Distinctive Duds and I hope to feature their photos in the future. Please feel free to email me a photo of your precious canine friend. I especially like the ones that are wearing my garments!
I have a BFA from University of Hartford (Hartford Art School) where I studied painting and got my K-12 Art Teaching Certificate. I taught high school art for 3 years before starting my family. After my first child was 1 year old, I decided to start my own small business and work on artistic endeavors from my home studio. I enjoy working from home where I can be accessible to my children and free to work my own night owl schedule.
I am always in the process of designing my new collections and have beautiful brocades and classy corduroy waiting in the wings. Visit my virtual studio often to see what's new. I never stop creating!!
