Skills and Techniques
I start with one or several clear, detailed, well-lit reference photos from which I create a preliminary sketch. Then I use a hard graphite pencil to map out areas of light and shadow. Using softer pencils, I flesh out the various values, bringing the image forth. I work several hours at a time, over a period of weeks. When I think I'm finished, I set the drawing aside, at least overnight, to take a fresh look and see what final touches would enhance the image.

Nothing excites me or intimidates me more than a blank piece of paper and a freshly sharpened pencil. I create artwork using colored pencils, sometimes creating portraits by commission, sometimes drawing my own inspirations. I belong to the Canine Art Guild, and the Colored Pencil Society of America. I have artwork in several galleries along the Gulf Coast, and have won local and regional awards for my work. I live on the Emerald Coast of Florida with my husband and teenage daughter, four rambuncious doggies, and a very tolerant cat.
