I was born just outside N.Y.C. almost 60 years ago. But I did not really begin to LIVE until I came out to this desert oasis to complete my college requirements at the University of Arizona. After graduation and for no really good reason, I decided to stay to see what would develop. What happened was a great life. Among other things I Found my soulmate(anchor) early on, discovered and grew a career in the Ad industry, and helped raise 2 wonderful sons along the way. About the time that lance Armstrong was becoming part of our culture I like many of my generation jumped on the livestrong bandwagon and bought a road bike. As it turned out, it was a defining moment for me. In 2007 I created JRPHOTO and published Desert Journeys: A Guide for the Tucson Road Cyclist. Now in it second printing, Desert Journeys has become a firmly established resource in the ever growing local cycling community.
My current position as a hiking and biking guide for Canyon Ranch Resort has given me a unique opportunity to experience nature up close and personal. Making photographs has become for me a natural way to capture thoses moments that make desert living so special and satisfying
Harris Hawk. Taken at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. After putting on an incredible aerial display at one of the daily birds of prey demonstrations, I was looking for a moment that would capture a sense of calm. I was patient, and so was he.
One of the loves of my life. Jake. Sometimes we don't have to look very far to find the perfect subject that expresses what really matters.
Cyclist finishing a race in downtown Tucson. A simple scene: One man, in charge of this moment, surrounded by concrete and metal. But the color gives you the impression that everything is ALIVE-and the man and his environment are really part of the same lifeforce. Crazy.
Desert Journeys: A Guide for the Tucson Road Cyclist. A first of its kind cycling resource. Written and photographed by Jerry Rosen, a Tucsonan for over 40 years.
