I really enjoy shopping estate sales and thrift stores for overlooked items that need a little cleaning. Taking a grimy old glass candelabra with broken prisms, restoring it, and finding it a new home really makes my day. I love getting a nice e-mail from a new owner who found exactly what they were looking for in that find. Some of my favorite finds were literally picked up off the floor in the middle of a jumbled mess but something caught my eye. A few of those really special finds eventually found their way to a museum or some other connection to its past. I like to think those items found me. One was an interesting little book written during the 1930s which was in a heap of knocked over books in the middle of the floor in a musty old house when the title caught my eye. After searching a bit for information on its history, I became fascinated with the author and eventually found his son who was close to 80 years old at the time. The son had no recollection of every seeing the book as it was written when he was a baby and his father passed away when he was still a young boy. I sent the book to him. Stories like that are what make this hobby interesting for me...I never know what I'll find or where that find will lead me.
