Get to Know
Growing up, I was a tomboy. I didn't like frills, lace, "bling"- as we call it now, or anything girly. I played with Tonka trucks instead of Barbies, preferred my skateboard to my bike, and I liked to get dirty- play in the mud, splash in puddles, etc. (and I didn't even have a brother to influence me!) So, imagine my parents' surprise when, around the age of 17, that started to change. A couple of years earlier, I had to make a shirt and shorts set in Home Economics class. The fact that they could be worn by any human after I was done was amazing! And so, the seed was planted.
Over time, fashion & jewelry became more important to me. When I entered college, I still wasn't sure what career I wanted to pursue, so after a couple semesters of taking General Ed., I took a personality/ career test. The test revealed that I was actually very interested in the Fashion industry & had a high creative capacity.(Shocker there, for this tomboy!)
Once I was in the fashion design classes, I finally felt like I was at home. The class that was most influential for me was Haute Couture embellishment. This class dove into the techniques of bead embroidery, fabric manipulation, the dyeing process, alternative embellishments, and more. Not only did I learn these techniques, but I had to practice them. I was intrigued! Bead embroidery was my favorite technique, but it wasn't until after college I discovered jewelry making and design. Instead of going into the fashion industry after college, as planned, I was drawn more to the cottage industries, and learning artisan techniques. Beading and sewing quickly became my two favorite techniques. I discovered the huge variety of beads and their creative possibilities, and I was hooked! Beading and crafting is rather therapeutic and relaxing for me. It is both enjoyable and rewarding. Admittedly, I am now an official bead-aholic, and have turned others on to this craze!
Due to my love of beads and craft supplies, I decided to open a supplies shop to help others along in their own designing passions! I love to "talk shop", learn new techniques from others, and share the techniques I know. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions about my items, how they can be used, techniques, or just to say "Hi!"
