Get to Know
The love of creating color rich artwork has been a long journey in the life of Patsy Evins. She received a BFA in drawing and painting and continued her studies for four more years in private art institutions. Her paintings have been exhibited and sold in Japan, Europe, the Far East, Puerto Rico, and the United States.
Her love of glass began many years ago when she started collecting old stained glass windows. Fascinated with the jewel-like colors that light and glass creates, Evins became obsessed in capturing these qualities in her paintings. In 1998, her artistic career took a new direction when she attended a class in fused glass. She fell in love with molten glass and its ability to create abstract paintings. Patsy signed up for another fusing class, only to have it cancelled a week before time to attend. Evins substituted a lampwork class, never imagining what was in store. It was love at first bead. Being able to manipulate molten glass into 3-D shapes expanded the possibilities of her artwork. She continued her education in lampworking including Kate Fowle, Deanna Griffin Dove, Loren Stump, Andrea Guarino, and many others. She also explored PMC and Silver Art Clay and is a certified senior teacher in both. Evins has found these new sculptural mediums a wonderful means to express her love of the tropics and the sea. Pulling from her extensive garden and tropical travels for inspiration, glass allows her to express her passion for flowers in a new way with her exquisite miniature artworks. The glass also allows Evins to capture and share the underwater magic of the sea that she has enjoyed. Her constant artistic evolution has opened opportunities for Evins to explore new ways of expression as an artist for years to come.
