My name is Michelle Gates. Years ago, I worked in the children's education department of a public botanical garden. However, when my first son was born, I left the workforce to be a full time mom. As busy as being a mom is, I craved having more to do. So I began embroidering.
At first, it was just a little here and there, but I was hooked. I experimented, studied, and worked whenever I could slip away from the kids. In time, I upgraded my equipment and started a business.
I use the name Polkadot Orchid partially because one of my jobs in college was cataloging all of the plants in the botany wing of the university greenhouse. Approximately one sixth of all of the floor space was devoted to orchids.
