Skills and Techniques
I have always loved rock and stones. As a kid, my pockets were always full. Every time my husband and I move, I lug around several boxes of rocks/minerals that I just can't give up! I'm always on the look-out for interesting and unique stones to make my jewelry. Sometimes a strand of stones might sit for quite a while before that "AHA!" moment. My designs are more the classic look but every once in a while I break out of the mold and do something different :)

Welcome to Shadow Dog Designs, your place to purchase beautifully unique, one-of-a-kind, handmade jewelry! I love working with gemstones of all kinds and creating beautiful pieces of jewelry that will last a life-time and, hopefully, be passed on to the next generation. The jewelry-making bug bit me hard about 13 years ago and I have been selling my designs ever then. A Shadow Dog Designs ArtFire shop was opened October 3, 2010.
Experiencing a life long love affair with Nature (am a self-professed "nature geek"), I am able to satisfy a strong desire to create by designing one-of-a-kind jewelry mainly using semi-precious stones and sterling or fine silver, but also polymer clay, Czech glass, Swarovski crystals, and, more recently, copper and lampwork beads. My Muse is Nature, and to be inspired, I just have to look out over the amazing desert landscape where my husband, my Shadow Puppy, Seamus, and I are privileged to live. My work is sold through galleries in Virginia, Texas and South Carolina, through art shows, home shows, Facebook and Flickr. I LOVE my ArtFire studio!
People always ask about my business name. It was named 12 years ago to honor our 3 (now, unfortunately, down to 1) rescue dogs who would "shadow" me everywhere and give me undying love, support, playfulness, dog smiles and dog kisses. I am an ardent supporter of adopting dogs from shelters and donate a percentage of my total sales to the local Humane Society.
Thank you for buying handmade.
Peace and joy . . . Catherine

R.I.P. 1995-2011. The beautiful Chase at 15 years old. We called her the laughing dog because she always seemed to have a gleam in her eye and a huge smile on her face. A hound/lab X, her silhouette is on my banner and business cards.
R.I.P. 1999-2012. Loki, a Gordon setter, was the sweetest, goofiest dog. We said she could go from Buddah to Bozo in a nanosecond! She was a friend to the world, unless you were a squirrel.
R. I. P. 2005-2012. Mesa, the stray who came to stay :) Wherever I was, she was very close. She took her job of protecting me very, very seriously. Died too young . . . missed greatly.
Seamus, the new Shadow Puppy, adopted from the El Paso Humane Society on Earth Day :) What a sweetie he is!
