Skills and Techniques
Each sign is painted on pine board (no vinyl lettering) and finished with a sawtooth hanger~~ready to display in your home. We usually do not 'distress' our signs to make them appear older/vintage (but will do that upon request)...and we do not try to correct natural wood markings, knots etc. as we feel this adds to the character of our signs.

I have always enjoyed crafting...I love finding something I like, and trying to make it myself! I fell in love with the look of subway art, and wood signs in general, years ago. I wanted an elegant look, and sentimental sayings...and when I could not find exactly what I wanted, I made it! I have been making signs for myself and family and friends for a while...usually as gifts. About a year ago, a friend who owns a local boutique, had a customer who had an idea for a sign that she wanted for her family room. I was asked if I could make it.... After making that sign, we put a few in the boutique to see how they would sell, and the rest is history :) We now have a wonderful local following! I also hope to incorporate some of my own original artwork with them.
My husband and I have 2 wonderful college aged children, so we are, I guess, empty nesters! We have 2 black Labs. And 2 horses that I train and show in local and regional dressage shows. We live in northern central MD. I am an RN, currently work in staff education as a Clinical Educator at a local hospital.
Along with my Signs of elegance business, I also own Forest Hill Soaps , specializing in handcrafted soaps and lotions made with natural ingredients!
My inspiration: Everything :) Really :) The ideas for the signs normally are sparked by a conversation, or a book, or a quote. I like taking words and phrases with a central theme and creating a sign with them. Sometimes an idea comes from a special request~~ that is how the wedding signs were created.
I think my favorite pieces are the Our House Rules and the Be Happy signs...
