Get to Know
I live in southeast GA near Savannah. I recently retired from nursing, and live with my dear husband, Steve or 26 years, and 2 young cats, (all rescued). I am the proud mother of a beautiful woman and proud grandmother of a granddaughter and grandson.
I cannot remember a time in my life when I did not do some sort of craft. One of my earliest memories is of sitting on my parents steps and drawing my tricycle. My mother told me I was only 4 at the time. I always owned crayons and was not admonished if I strayed outside the lines. I was taught to crochet by an aunt. My mother taught me embroidery when I was a child. I spent much of my young adulthood sewing. I sewed all of my daughter's clothing until she was about 10. I even made my sister's wedding gown. Drawing and painting were my favorite pastimes. When I married my husband he joined the Army and we were stationed and lived in Nuremberg, Germany. It was there I fell in love with stained glass. I think I visited every church in Germany and I never failed to be awestruck when looking at the windows. When we returned to the states I took a class in beginner stained glass at the local Army Craft Shop. It was a disaster; the teacher was not very knowledgeable and was not much help when I ran into problems. I didn't think I would ever pick up a glasscutter again. Being the stubborn person I am, I bought a glass grinder and soldering iron and plugged away. Then I saw a program on TV, "Glass with Vicky Payne". Everything fell into place and It has been nonstop since. I wandered into fusing and I like it but need instant gratification so became a bit bored with it. A friend introduced me to the flame. Fire, I love to play with fire!!! What does one do with all of those beads? Make jewelry of course, so I took some basic stringing classes which lead to wire wrapping, which is leading to metalsmithing, OMG where will it all end? I hope I shall keep on learning and designing for the rest of my life.
