Skills and Techniques
I currently teach jewelry making techniques for a bead store in North Texas - basic stringing, wire wrapped loops, and silk thread knotting. I also teach freelance, including classes on Friendly Plastic and kumihimo, which I will teach to any interested groups.
My interest in fibers has led me to learn the ancient Japanese form of braiding called Kumihimo. So far I am only using a simple braid in my designs, but plan on teaching myself more difficult techniques in the future. Right now I am playing with adding beads to my braids.
I also have taught myself how to make silk fusion, which is a paper / fabric like material made from silk tops (long individual strands of silk thread normally twisted into yarn). The silk tops are hand dyed into gorgeous colors. The fusing of the fibers form a sheet of material which can be used flat, for scrapbooking or sewing, or draped into 3-dimensional objects, such as bowls and vases.
My latest love is Friendly Plastic, a material that was popular in the 90s. It's making a huge comeback and I'm happy to be counted among the artists now using this wonderful material. I really like the marbling, inlay, and fracture/fuse techniques but right now am focusing on alcohol inks. I still have more techniques to learn and, maybe, come up with one of my own!

Get to Know
I began making jewelry as a hobby in the mid 90s. I was working an IT job full time and although found it challenging, I needed something to keep my creative side happy. I've always been crafty, I remember making tiny dioramas for my grandmother as a child. One thing led to another and soon I was happily making and wearing my own jewelry. When I realized I could sell my creations and make a little money, Wolf Creek Designs was born.
Wolf Creek is a small, home based business. I am the sole employee and love it that way because I have full control over all the processes, even the ones I don't particularly care for (like the book keeping). Working part time at a bead store gives me access to great quality beads and findings. And my customers there are amazingly generous in sharing tips and favorite shopping haunts for unusual treasures.
I am pretty much self taught on all the techniques that I use - from books and DVD's to internet videos and websites. I have to admit it - I get bored easily so I am constantly on the look out for new techniques to use and new materials to try. But that's great for you, my lovely customers, because you get the benefit of my itch to continue learning.
Custom orders are accepted. However, I must add that the pieces made with alcohol inks are nearly impossible to replicate. The inks react to each other in a fascinating but frustrating way - even two pieces done side by side at the exact same time can look different. I'll do my best to match colors but I can't make any guarantees for the alcohol ink process pieces.
I hope you enjoy shopping with Wolf Creek Designs. My goal is to make the very best product that I can, and your satisfaction is very important to me. I'd love to hear from you with comments or suggestions.
