Get to Know
My passion for designing jewelry comes from the beautiful, vintage and unusual beads from countries such as Africa, India, Asia, Nepal, Italy, and the Middle East, following the path of the ancient Silk Road as well as western African countries such as Ghana.
Beads from these countries are often rustic, primitive and hand-hewn made by tribes or peoples using ancient techniques. The beads are often recycled from bottles, stones, natural materials such as bone, wood, or paper. My designs celebrate the uniqueness of these beads and the fusing of the tribal with the contemporary; the primitiveness with the modern. I call this, blending of the ancient and contemporary, 'global fusion'.
I was first drawn to beads and jewelry-making when I visited Venice, Italy in 2006. I became intrigued by the beautiful glasswork of Murano artists. I bought some Murano pendants as souvenirs which I still wear today. When I started making jewelry, I stumbled onto a site that sold African trade beads and while researching their history I read how they were used to trade for goods along the route which is now known as the Silk Road, a network of trade routes across the Asian continent, which connected the East, South, and Western Asia with the Mediterranean world, as well as North and Northeast Africa, and Europe.
A lot of these beads which are hundreds of years old are being resold today. Everything came full circle and I decided that my designs would incorporate these beautiful beads as well as beads from other ancient civilizations into my designs. I feel that a piece of history is reflected within each piece of jewelry I design!
My inspiration comes from drawings and pictures of jewelry from these countries, but I make my designs contemporary for today's modern women and men. The woman I target is one who loves unique jewelry with a story to tell. The beadnicty woman is not afraid to stand out from the crowd and is willing to purchase a piece that is artisan, one-of-a-kind and makes a statement. The beadnicity woman ( and man) is confidant, assured, and appreciates the unique nature of hand-made jewelry.
Selecting and wearing a piece of jewelry is a very personal choice. A good piece of jewelry defines, molds, and makes a woman feel special. Beadnicity's goal is to make designs that reflect the uniqueness of the beads I adore and the women that wear them. It is truly 'jewelry with a global view'.
