'm a 31 year old mother of two little girls who drive me delightfully nutty. I'd never thought I'd end up a toymaker, but for Christmas 2007, my two year old daughter only wanted a stuffed purple pony. I scoured the toy stores, checked eBay, craigslist, online, offline, nothing. And man, the toys in stores were so boring! Despite my alternate suggestions, a purple pony was the only thing that Santa could bring to make her heart sing. I'd have to make one in order to meet the Christmas deadline. And so my first plushie was born. Man, it was ugly! Friends and family sadly smiled, and told me to nip the sewing habit in the bud, but I had left over fabric, and wanted to see what else I could do. Since then, I've become an addict and am cranking out all kinds of animals. My daughters inspire me and tell me what to make next and also help with some of the stuffing and picking out colors. They also give the final okay, which ensures everything is kid-approved. My Flaky Friends are meant to make people smile. I'm a big "touch" person so all my materials are the most delightfully soft and cuddly as possible. I don't work from patterns and am figuring this all out as I go based on doodles of ideas in my sketchbook. I hope my toys make you laugh as much as I do when I first see them.
