Get to Know
Hi - thanks for taking the time to check out my Artfire Shop, which is a bit of a mixed bag of art and craft. I am originally from Adelaide South Australia and have just moved to Canberra ACT. All my art works are original and in South Australia I was selling my work at local art shows where I have received 2 painting merit awards (I am just a little chuffed about that, although I am sure that the next painting disaster will bring me quickly back down to earth). In my spare time I dabble with lots of things and in the past I focused mainly on pottery and ceramics, silver smithing and jewellery making. I also love doing tie dye and photography, enjoy looking at beautiful scenery (all the while wishing I could paint it better), checking out art galleries and museums and lurking in coffee shops eating raspberry cheese cake (when I can afford it). Luckily I have a supportive partner who tolerates my creative chaos and has a strong enough sense of self preservation to tell me that whatever I create and wave in front of him is just lovely (bless him). I have been studying watercolour painting with John Ford, one of Australia's leading maritime artists, and dabbling at home with acrylics as well (thanks to the wonders of the internet and Skype I can still confer with John long distance). I make big messes in my house doing tie dye and even bigger messes doing printmaking - something I have recently become very interested in after doing it last year as part of my uni Fine Arts degree. The expense incurred in my move to Canberra has put my uni art studies on hold for the moment, but I am hoping to still find the time to create, especially once I can afford to buy a decent table to work on - all I currently have is an old fold up card table (starving artist! - perhaps a wobbly table will give me some interesting vibrational effects in my abstract art work - will have to see). Anyway, I hope you like my art and have fun browsing this shop. If you like what you see, please share it around and if you have any questions please contact me. Cheers from Australia.
"Jewel Beetle". This is a Jewel Beetle which I painted with watercolours a while back.
"The Boar of Ben Bulben". Watercolour painting. This was my entry in the Port Adelaide Celtica Exhibition in December 2010. It is a painted image of a metal celtic boar found by archaeologists.
Rosemary's T-shirt. This is a tie dye t-shirt Xmas present that I made for my best friend Rosemary
This is called "Space Carpet". It is one of the first things I ever did and it still hangs in my passage at home. I took small sections of standard geometric patterns on persian rugs and I rearranged them into my own design. Loved doing it and I will never sell it.
