Mocahete.......... Artisanal Adornment Mocahete is a design team of two, Sabrina and Dante, working from our studio in rural South Georgia. Everything in our shop is a collaboration from design through fabrication. A melange of ingredients go into our work--wood, glass, stones, beads, metals, anything material, although that's no limitation. Materials often consist of wonderfully juxtaposed ingredients that combined, create most unusual one of a kind pieces. The whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. Our favorite metals include copper and silver although steels, aluminum and brass are not uncommon. We love copper for many reasons, not the least of which is its ethereal glow, one of the only metals (known) to express a color other than silver or gray, although gold is another--they both belong to the group 11 block of elements along with silver, gold and element 111. Copper is hypoallergenic, like its sister metals--gold and silver. Copper has long been associated with the God Hermes and is said to assist with mental agility. Evidence of copper being used as adornment has a history that dates back to 10,000 years. Copper has long been a favorite for its sheer beauty. Copper can be hammered, torched and given a patina with beautiful results. Copper is also an essential nutrient, found in all foods. We design most of our earwires and many of our findings. Often exquisite Turkish sterling, Rajasthani sterling, and Hill Tribe fine silver (97.5-99.0 percent pure silver) are added for their exotic intrigue. When beads are needed they are selected from an ever increasing assortment, from lush gemstones, tribal beads, precious metals,wonderful vintage, antique collectible trade beads, plus many more. Our wrist cuffs do not fit into the regular jewelry boxes so they are packaged creatively and shipped with care to insure safe arrival.
