Get to Know
Nithya Swaminathan is a self taught artist, and loves to explore a whole gamut of subjects and media. She is inspired by the world around her, be it the landscapes she comes across in her travels or the patterns and forms of everyday objects. Art, to her is an attempt to immortalize every such moment that makes her pause and marvel at the beauty around.
Nithya's portraiture mostly involves children. She finds them much more enjoyable than adult portraits, and relishes the challenge of capturing innocence on canvas. Her foremost model, is of course, her little daughter.
Nithya's work style is realism, and her most preferred subjects are Still Life, Portraits and Landscapes. Her paintings are characterized by bold and strong usage of color, with sharp contrasts and dramatic lighting. Her still lifes are done from life, and her landscapes are painted indoors with reference images and sketches.
Nithya Swaminathan mostly works in a series, which allows her to explore the same subjects deeper from a variety of viewpoints. Some of her recent series were from a pear based still life setup an an apple based setup.
She lives in Germany with her husband and little daughter.
