Get to Know
Why the name Strawberryfields? My maiden name is Fields, when the Beatles song came when I was about 14 years old, so the other kids teased me - none of us knew the words of the song, we just knew the 'chorus'. I had trouble opening my studio [I didn't know you can't have a space within the name]. My husband and I heard the song the afternoon before I opened my shop, and HE TEASED ME! I was frustrated not being able to choose the name I wanted for my studio - but when I typed in the nickname, it took! That's how I ended up with this name. I have enjoyed making beautiful things with a string and some beads since childhood, and seeing my Mom make beautiful things with a ball of 'string' and a hook peeked my desire to learn to crochet. I taught myself to crochet, than moved into knitting for the challenge of it. I love making one of a kind and limited edition jewelry using professional techniques, skills and materials. My family and friends encouraged me to sell my jewelry and knit / crochet. I am handicapped and unable to withstand the rigors of the 'craft' shows that is how I ended up selling online.
Because I've always collected rocks, shells and 'pretty things' since childhood, and I've carried home stray animals and people too - I feel very strongly that I inherited my love of beading, art, nature and a soft heart from my paternal Native American Great Grandmother.
My love of crochet knitting was inherited from my late mother while I watched her patiently crochet many beautiful baby sets for family and friends.
When my mother watched as I made things with those tiny beads, she used to say I had the patience of a saint. A congenital hip problem pretty much sidelined me, and I spent hours at a time perfecting my necklaces and belts. Now you can count on 100% of that patience and skill going into each handmade necklace, bracelet, pair of earrings, knitted and/or crocheted hat, leg warmers, arm warmers, scarves and everything else I create.
My artistic vision and inspiration comes from the gemstones, pearls, beads, crystals and glass and the metals I work with and colors, patterns and designs found in nature.
I offer two price points, one in sterling silver, the other is fashion jewelry made with silver or gold plated findings that are always lead and nickel free.
My grandchildren recently requested hair bows - so 'gramma' made them bows and as you know, you have to buy tons of ribbon and all of the 'tools' and accessories needed to make them, so I've added Korker Bows to my studio fare. Otherwise, the kids will have to find a place for them when I'm gone!
