How long does it take to be successful?

Guess it depends on your definition of success. I went to school for almost six years to do something I don't even like anymore so I figure I need to give it at least six years, this trying to sell crafts. Some days I want to clear out all the stuff, get a full-time job, and just keep crafting as a hobby. But that's not REALLY what I want, so I guess I'll just keep plugging away.Lately I've been working on making my photos a bit more interesting. I've been lazy on this subject and have just cranked out the pictures in my small homemade light box. But then I was re-reading the 7 ways to make your business fail, and realized that I do need to get mo... » Read More

Hypertufa Pot Survives Being Dropped!

Yes, that's right--the very first hypertufa pot I made survived being dropped and landing upside down! Whew--I was wailing as it happened. There seems to be just a small flattened area where it must've landed. I guess that's a good sign for its future durability. Saturday will be three weeks since I took it out of its mold and have kept it lightly covered with plastic. Seems it might need a bit more drying time. In my mind, the longer it cures, the better. Hope I'm right! I've got two more of these earthy creations curing now. This is fun stuff, and pretty quick to make. The hardest part is packing it down tightly between inner and outer molds. I ... » Read More

$3 Stool, Old Plant Pot; Before and After Pictures

Here are the before and after pictures of an old stool I bought for $3 from someone on my favorite shopping site--Craigslist. I made some chalk paint and used it for the first time, then covered the top with some wallpaper scraps. I think it makes a great plant stand.  I re-did the pot a while ago and really like the way it turned out. I was going to try to sell it but I like it so it's staying with me for a while.... » Read More

Hot fun in the summertime: flowers, veggies and hypertufa

Here are some pix of what I/we've been up to this summer. Proof that seeds DO work; my first hypertufa pot in the curing stage; zinnias that came up volunteer from last year's crop; green peppers from seed; the cucumber that got away from me. Those sungold tomatoes are great! Unfortunately, my tomato plants all have some kind of fungal thing going on so they're not doing as well this year. Drats!... » Read More

Has anyone used homemade chalk paint?

If anyone out there can give me any input of your experience with this stuff, would you please share with me?? I want to make some since it is very expensive to buy. I'm wondering what makes it so if it's so cheap to make! ... » Read More

Cheap Table Idea

Hey, I was thinking the other day how my ironing board was a nice height to work from for some things, so I bought a $3 used one from C's list and used it today. It made the painting project easier because I really needed to have a lot of mobility to paint the branches. I really like being able to fold it up and put it back in the closet when I don't need it. I'd say don't forget to think outside the box, but it's such a cliche'...... » Read More

Finally starting to blog on Artfire!

I've been on Artfire for a while now and I'm wondering if people out there reading this would like to share with me what kinds of items they would like to see sold. I'm sure there are things that aren't as plentiful as others. I'd love some input on this!... » Read More
