Delicious recipe for a healthy whole wheat sour cream blueberry lemon coffee cake at the end of this blog post! For three years, I attempted to grow blueberry bushes in my backyard. Who wouldn't want fresh blueberries for breakfast? My backyard did not, obviously! My soil was too heavy with clay. Even under the pine trees, the pH was a 7.0. Blueberries need a pH of 4.5 to thrive. I tried adding sulfur to the soil. Took it down to a 6.0 after 2 years. I had all but given up when a neighbor who gifted me two enormous blooming Patriot blueberry bushes from Monrovia. I certainly did not want to kill these beauties, so I ran to one ... » Read More
Are you thinking about digging up your useless lawn and making your land work for you? If you are lucky enough not to have to deal with HOA rules, then go for it! My home is in a very old neighborhood, established over 100 years ago. As long as I don't let my yard get overgrown with weeds, I am free to garden away. Over the summer, I will share picture and tips. Feel free to ask questions in my comment section. I will do my best to give you a good answer or steerHere is a picture of my side plot. It lies on the south side of my house and gets lots of sun. The area was stripped bare when we had foundation work done and not... » Read More
Some days, I just love living near an ALDI. I grabbed the following ingredients at our neighborhood Aldi and whipped up a quick and easy pasta salad for a mommy camp out. My friends devoured it and asked for the recipe. Normally, I am a "from scratch" cook, so I found all the attention pretty funny.ALDI Pasta SaladAll ingredients come are ALDI store brand. Whole-Wheat Sandwich Bread

I first began my business by only making doll quilts. I am a baby-steps type of gal. One thing at a time is my speed. While my studio is overflowing now with aprons, chef hats, purses, and fabric jewelry, I still have a love for making doll quilts. At crafts shows, I sometimes sell the beautiful solid wood cradles my husband makes without a quilt. The buyer will tell me, "I am a quilter, and I want to make my granddaughter a doll quilt, and it needs something wonderful and sturdy to go with it!' I am happy to sell my husband's work, but there is always a little part of me that is sad to take a quilt out of a doll cradle. My favo... » Read More
I love to cook even more than I love to sew! Last year, I embarked on completely changing the way I baked for the 4th time by making my kitchen "eat clean". I have to admit outright that I am a sugar junkie to the extreme...stress makes me reach for candy, even spoonfuls of sugar, so Eating Clean has been an amazing journey. 10% weight lost and 2 sizes in the first 2 months, and have kept it off for over a year, even with a few weeks here and there falling off the wagon. Here is the recipe I have been tweaking. I can't resist over-ripe banana sales at the store. Here is a recipe for a big double batch of muffins. Makes 2 dozen. C... » Read More
My mailbox has been filled with the "toy catalogs" from all of the big box stores. Page after page of insanely expensive plastic toys that scream, shoot, dance, and will probably give any parent a migraine!Sometimes it is hard to resist the bright colors and flashy marketing coming from the big toy makers. They feed into a human's need to collect. Here is a little tip to help you avoid that impulse to buy that giant hunk of plastic your tiny sweetheart will love when opening but will never ever play with. Next time your neighborhood has a "Big Trash Day" (that one day a month when people can toss out those ugly couches and broken fl... » Read More
A big THANK YOU to East De Pere High School for hosting the Redbird Holly Craft Faire. Over 5000 wonderful shoppers came through the door! There was a mad rush on my aprons in the morning...what a pleasure! A few of my favorite quilts found a new home, too. I know toys are always happier with a playmate. Set up went especially well with my eight year old son helping. He was appreciative to have the opportunity to see what I do when I disappear on a Saturday (and appreciative of the $5 he earned once I found my missing cash envelope!) I have to give a big shout out to Square Up. What a wonderful app! I was in a panic after... » Read More
