Delicious recipe for a healthy whole wheat sour cream blueberry lemon coffee cake at the end of this blog post! For three years, I attempted to grow blueberry bushes in my backyard. Who wouldn't want fresh blueberries for breakfast? My backyard did not, obviously! My soil was too heavy with clay. Even under the pine trees, the pH was a 7.0. Blueberries need a pH of 4.5 to thrive. I tried adding sulfur to the soil. Took it down to a 6.0 after 2 years. Some days, I just love living near an ALDI. I grabbed the following ingredients at our neighborhood Aldi and whipped up a quick and easy pasta salad for a mommy camp out. Whole-Wheat Sandwich Bread
The sponge:
2 1/4 cups warm water
1 scant Tablespoon active dry yeast (I use Red Star since it's local)
1/4 cup unsulfured molasses
2/3 cup nonfat dry mik or dried buttermilk
1/2 c gluten
2 cups whole wheat flour
(I sub 1/2 c of the ww flour with Tosca Reno's flour power
blend...basically a whole lot of different nutrient packed flours. This
is a mix you make yourself...it's not branded and sold. Amaranth,
garbanzo, brown rice, spelt, oat)
The Bread
1/3 cup oil (I use Sunflower Oil....gives an amazing flavor)
2 1/2 teaspoons salt

I first began my business by only making doll quilts. I am a baby-steps type of gal. One thing at a time is my speed. While my studio is overflowing now with aprons, chef hats, purses, and fabric jewelry, I still have a love for making doll quilts. At crafts shows, I sometimes sell the beautiful solid wood cradles my husband makes without a quilt. The buyer will tell me, "I am a quilter, and I want to make my granddaughter a doll quilt, and it needs something wonderful and sturdy to go with it!' A big THANK YOU to East De Pere High School for hosting the Redbird Holly Craft Faire. Over 5000 wonderful shoppers came through the door! There was a mad rush on my aprons in the morning...what a pleasure! A few of my favorite quilts found a new home, too. I know toys are always happier with a playmate. Set up went especially well with my eight year old son helping. He was appreciative to have the opportunity to see what I do when I disappear on a Saturday (and appreciative of the $5 he earned once I found my missing cash envelope!)
