~ Make Friends With Freedom and Uncertainty ~More from my interpretations on "How to Be an Artist" by SarkHow do we conquer the day ahead of us? How do we step out of the house in the morning, push the shopping cart through the grocery store, step onto a stage and sing, walk into a class room, pick up a paint brush, choose to do the right thing? With Freedom and Uncertainty of course. There is no way to have one without the other. We may have an innate understanding of the feeling that freedom brings but the fortitude it takes to follow through and accept what ever consequences arise from that decision are unknown mostly and thus you are p... » Read More

More thoughts in my interpretive series on “How to be an Artist” by Sark ~ Plant Impossible Gardens ~An Impossible Garden will never be . Since I bought my house in 1995 I have been expanding and expanding my garden. I have a pretty good size city lot so it was easy. I had to take down a bunch of Boxelder trees, they were icky anyway, to let some sun onto the yard. The soil was clay so it literally took years to amend in order for most plants to grow. A friend helped me build a vegetable bed behind my garage but that moved 12 years ago because the maple tree which I refused to take down got big and beautiful and completely shaded th... » Read More

Sometimes I look at some of my older designs and ask myself, "What were you thinking?" Not that those pieces are ugly or anything, it's just that they stop speaking to me. So I end up pulling them out of stores and put them in the 'someday I'll figure out something else to do with these' box. Well, this is that moment. I decided to try something a little different and I absolutely love the results. I was browsing around the bead store last week and saw these bags full of ribbons of cut up saris. AHA!!!!!! Bought some. I ran home, well, drove home, and ran up the stairs to my studio, pulled out some of those older piec... » Read More
Wanted to share this great tip. When you're struggling to put on a bracelet........Use a Paper Clip Despite thousands of years of use and design, women's bracelets can be pretty tricky to put on, often requiring some tricky maneuvers or a two-person effort. MacGyver's favorite tool, the paper clip, to the rescue.Reader Dale3h dropped off this little tip in the comments, and it looks like a great thing to keep in mind when a stubbornly tiny bracelet hook or catch refuses to cooperate, and time is running out as you're trying to head out the door. All you have to do is bend the paper clip once, and it should be much easier to hook things up.http:... » Read More

~ Culitvate Moods ~Week 4 in my interpretive series on “How to be an Artist” by SarkIt’s spring and for those of us gardeners it’s the most intense part of the season. We have to prepare the dirt for planting. This involves clearing the old dead stuff from last year, amending the soil so plants have the nutrients they need, and tilling to soften the soil so roots have room to grow.Last year my husband helped me build raised beds for the veggies. The reasons for this were twofold. First, to help optimize the conditions for growing healthy veggies, and two to help me take care of them more easily. I have a pretty busy schedule thes... » Read More
I haven't posted in my blog in such a long time. Life has been a little hectic and I've been side tracked with a lot of family issues. But I saw this quote on Facebook and it really is the perfect quote for those of us who live on the edge, live with an unfettered passion for what we do, work in an unconventional way, putting in crazy long hours working our craft, who dare to step away from the norms and stretch our arms out and say "Yes, I can do this no matter what!", who are independent thinkers and don't follow blindly by what society deems is 'the best way/thing to do.....'. I was taught to never kid myself about all of life's offerings b... » Read More

Issue 10 in my interpretive series on “How to be an Artist” by Sark~ Do It Now. Do It For Love. The Money Will Follow ~We’ve all heard the adage - “It takes money to make money”. Uh huh. So true, but there’s a big . What do you do when you don’t have the proverbial pot. We all know the one. Hmmm..... Long hard pondering moment. Not a clue. End of blog. Just kidding. I don’t have a tried and true answer. I do believe whole heartedly in the last sentence of my Week 9 blog, “It takes gumption and hard work and lots of chutzpah to become the warrior for your own dreams.” I know theres a lot of folks ... » Read More

I was inspired to write this after hearing the message at church. In one of our forums we were talking about "creative block". Like writers block. When nothing seems to come together. You stare at a blank canvas or an empty bead board or a skein of yarn and can't quite figure out what to do next.I realized that these are "Moments of Grace" - when our creative muse just needs a little break. She/He needs time to re-energize. Step aside and allow the process to rest a bit. Maybe this is the time to do something totally outside of our creative work space. Allow ourselves, our thoughts, to move beyond the frustration and maybe guilt of ... » Read More

2010-11-2610:20:11Yesterday we shared Thanksgiving with my best friends fiances family. What a joyful day. What a great family. We had already met some of the clan at band gigs. It is a very musical family which for my husband and I, we are both musicians, was a blast because we ended up jamming on our acoustic guitars and singing all kinds of old standard tunes...... for us that would be The Stones, Tom Petty, some old blues, Fleetwood Mac, etc. The best part was that you didn't have to worry about being perfect. We laughed when we forgot the words but someone in the room always saved us, and when we stumbled trying to figure out ch... » Read More

This was sent to me by a very dear friend. I wanted to share it with all the pet caretakers in Loving memory of my two babies Tasha and Scoobie. The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food.Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest. The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help b... » Read More
