We did our first AF blog giveaway and in order to pick the winner, I'm just going to close my eyes and point at my computer monitor (since only TWO people entered the giveaway)!  I can't do an "eenie, meenie, miney moe" -- since that ALWAYS works out in the favor of the second person.  So here goes... Developing a certain style

I've often wondered.   Would it be better to pick one jewelry design style and stick with it?  Would it help in devloping a "signature" style?   Some designers work solely in mixed metals; some in polymer clay. Some do intricate beadwork and some do perfect wire-wrapping or chainmaille. Each piece of jewelry they make will have that one key element, making all of their pieces fall within the same style category, while still remaining completely unique.   Being in some form of the arts my entire life, from music to sign painting, writing childrens books and now creating jewelry, I'm not quite sure I would be... » Read More

Gaining TV Exposure for Your Craft

For several years, I've watched the same morning news crew on television, in order to catch a glimpse of the weather and traffic reports prior to leaving for the store. Five women and two men run an informative, yet highly entertaining news hour. A couple of weeks ago as I was doing my routine morning weather/traffic check I realized that every time someone made something for the anchor crew...whether it be food from a local restaurant, a painting for their newsroom, etc., the news anchors would continuously plug the person or place that provided them with the gift. *Lightbulb* I decided to make a piece of jewelry for each of the news ... » Read More

A sure-fire way to get people to sign up for your newsletter

It's been asked in both the Art Fire forums and more recently, on Plurk, as to who sends out newsletters and how do you get people to sign up for them?   I started out (probably like most people) with the good old "sign up for our newsletter" button on our website and sat and waited...and waited...and waited even longer. If I remember correctly, I think within the first 3 months or so we received all of one (maybe two) people signing up. To me, it wasnt' even worth sending one out to just one or two people, so we didn't.   Again last May, I thought about how to get info out about a sale or new items, so I spent time pre... » Read More

Essensu...I think I LOVE you!

It's plain and simple: I want to be 29 and holding.....forever. I know in my heart I will always remain young, however in my family, all of the women seem (at an early age) to develop deep wrinkles around our lips and eyes, with bags so large and puffy, I swear they would need to be at any airport terminal prior to boarding a plane. I had already spent hundreds of dollars and tried many brands of creams and lotions that claim to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Well guess what?  Each time I tried a new product, I took a "before" picture so I could really see if there were any results and by the time I was through the first bottle, tube or ... » Read More
