Time just goes too fast for me.  It will soon be Thanksgiving with Christmas following close behind.  I haven't written in my ArtFire blog in a couple months.  Here's what's new:In September, I went to GEM Street USA.  It's a show where jewelry supply vendors sell their gemstones and other jewelry findings.  I had a ball!  Each year that I go, I'm amazed at the high quality gemstones I find.  My favorite purchase this year was brecciated jasper gemstones.  I bought from two different vendors and made a double strand necklace and earrings.  They were expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for! TMJ problems

Today's blog isn't about my jewelry, it's about my TMJD problem.  TMJD stands for temporal-mandibular joint dysfunction.  Ten years ago, I dislocated the right side of my jaw eating a chocolate heart candy.  It was around Valentine's Day. When I bit down on the left side, the right side popped out of joint and didn't go back in. For several months, I lived with the pain until my jaw locked closed. When a joint locks closed, it can only be opened about 25mm or an inch wide.  I had to start eating my soft food with a baby spoon and had to brush with a child size tooth brush.  It got so bad, I finally had surgery.The surgery was arthroscopicÂ... » Read More

Dice bead jewelry

My dice bead jewelry is selling very quickly at my hair salon. One of my customers who also gets their hair done there, keeps buying them and I couldn't be happier. So what does The Singing Beader sing?  Does she sing and make jewelry at the same time?  These are questions that I often get asked.  Surprisingly, when I create a piece of jewelry, I like it very quiet, I don't even have a radio on.  I like to concentrate on what my plans are and keep my mind focused on the outcome.  In general, I like it really quiet in the house when I'm making my handmade jewelry.However, when it's time for music, I rock!!  I mean I really rock!  I especially love to sing female rock covers from Pat Benatar, Heart, Joan Jett and even Hole. Handmade jewelry compared to store bought

I often stop in the jewelry section of well-known department stores. I want to compare my handmade jewelry that I sell on ArtFire. I feel the items and inspect how they are constructed, for example, the kind of clasp used on a necklace, or the kind of metal used and the quality of the semi-precious gemstones.  Because I can feel the items in the stores, I often notice the "cheapness" of the materials used. The semi-precious gemstones sometimes will have pits and rough areas and the metals are very lightweight and flimsy. When I compare the prices, I notice that they are comparable to mine.
