Graduation Gifts for Band Students

It is that time of year again.  May is the month most seniors graduate from high school and graduation parties are abundant throughout the summer months.  Many graduating students participated in marching or concert band and played an instrument throughout their high school years.  Some even started playing as young as elementary school and continue to play in college bands. The perfect graduation gift for these students is a sterling silver musical instrument charm necklace. In my ArtFire studio, "The Singing Beader", I sell music themed jewelry, including  sterling silver musical instrument charm necklaces.  The necklaces are hand-const... » Read More

Musical Instrument Charm Jewelry - the fronts and backs of it

Well, old man winter has really arrived in Cleveland, Ohio, and after a day of 65 degrees just last week, this week he came back with a quite a vengeance. Snow, snow and more snow! I often look out the window at the weather when I'm taking photos of my handmade jewelry.  All the seasons come and go so quickly and I take the beauty of the colorful seasons for granted;  from white and gray to green and blue, then to those wonderful autumn colors, all the beauty provided by mother nature. Lately,  I've taken notice in the beauty and intricate details of musical instruments. As I continue to add more music themed jewelry to my ArtFire studio, I'... » Read More

Tuba and Trombone necklaces now available at The Singing Beader

Happy New Year! This year I plan to add more music themed jewelry to my ArtFire shop. Last year, 2012, the microphone charm earrings were a top seller followed by flute, clarinet and drum necklaces. These gorgeous sterling silver charms are replicas of real instruments with lots of detail. They make excellent gifts for band or orchestra students, teachers, or anyone who enjoys music themed jewelry. Karaoke enthusiasts will enjoy wearing the microphone earrings and matching necklaces. I had the pleasure of making and selling my first sterling silver banjo necklace. The banjo was magnificent. I could imagine it strumming a bluegrass... » Read More

What's new with The Singing Beader

Time just goes too fast for me.  It will soon be Thanksgiving with Christmas following close behind.  I haven't written in my ArtFire blog in a couple months.  Here's what's new:In September, I went to GEM Street USA.  It's a show where jewelry supply vendors sell their gemstones and other jewelry findings.  I had a ball!  Each year that I go, I'm amazed at the high quality gemstones I find.  My favorite purchase this year was brecciated jasper gemstones.  I bought from two different vendors and made a double strand necklace and earrings.  They were expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for! The quality of these stones are superb.  Th... » Read More

TMJ problems

Today's blog isn't about my jewelry, it's about my TMJD problem.  TMJD stands for temporal-mandibular joint dysfunction.  Ten years ago, I dislocated the right side of my jaw eating a chocolate heart candy.  It was around Valentine's Day. When I bit down on the left side, the right side popped out of joint and didn't go back in. For several months, I lived with the pain until my jaw locked closed. When a joint locks closed, it can only be opened about 25mm or an inch wide.  I had to start eating my soft food with a baby spoon and had to brush with a child size tooth brush.  It got so bad, I finally had surgery. The surgery was arthroscopicÂ... » Read More

My dice bead jewelry is selling very quickly at my hair salon. One of my customers who also gets their hair done there, keeps buying them and I couldn't be happier. Since I started making dice earrings last year, she's purchased about a dozen pairs in many different colors and styles. I wouldn't be surprised if she is wearing her new earrings to the new Horseshoe Casino, that recently opened in Cleveland, OH.  I also have a great selection of dice jewelry on ArtFire.com.  I sell earrings, a necklace and earring set an anklet and a charm bracelet.  They are all very colorful, using multicolored acrylic dice beads. What The Singing Beader sings

So what does The Singing Beader sing?  Does she sing and make jewelry at the same time?  These are questions that I often get asked.  Surprisingly, when I create a piece of jewelry, I like it very quiet, I don't even have a radio on.  I like to concentrate on what my plans are and keep my mind focused on the outcome.  In general, I like it really quiet in the house when I'm making my handmade jewelry. However, when it's time for music, I rock!!  I mean I really rock!  I especially love to sing female rock covers from Pat Benatar, Heart, Joan Jett and even Hole. I also like to sing 60's female girl group songs like The Crystals, The Chiffons,... » Read More

Handmade jewelry compared to store bought

I often stop in the jewelry section of well-known department stores. I want to compare my handmade jewelry that I sell on ArtFire. I feel the items and inspect how they are constructed, for example, the kind of clasp used on a necklace, or the kind of metal used and the quality of the semi-precious gemstones.  Because I can feel the items in the stores, I often notice the "cheapness" of the materials used. The semi-precious gemstones sometimes will have pits and rough areas and the metals are very lightweight and flimsy. When I compare the prices, I notice that they are comparable to mine. This only tells me that my jewelry probably could be pr... » Read More
