Necklace by Pretty Gonzo Goddess Pendant by ShadowDogDesigns Soutache Necklace by Specialtivity With Mother’s Day on the horizon in just over a month, it
can be a challenge to choose a gift that is special enough to give to a woman
who created and nurtured our lives. The
very idea of “Mother” is an archetype that embodies the very root of our being.
“She” is the one who ripens the seed of
our life and brings us into existence.
There are many iconic mothers, Mother Earth, the Goddess, Mother Mary,
and even June Cleaver! “Mother” implies some kind of magic, where

Why do we love to buy handmade and why should we? There are so many reasons to purchase handmade items. Here are some of my favorite reasons. What reasons do you have? Send me a message and I'll add your reason to my list!
1. The items are made individually and are often unique and made with
human hands. Slight imperfections add to the value of the items. These things are not mass produced by machines that churn out identical parts.
This is great for car parts and electronics, where exact machining is
necessary, but not for personal items that we want to touch, feel, wear and identify with.
2. The handmade item took time and... » Read More
Blogger’s Block
I know I should be blogging,
but my creativity is slogging.
I hope this little rhyme,
Will help me buy some time
to get the juices flowing
and get my writing going.
With all of life’s distractions,
I can’t control reactions
to all the pressing issues.
I need a box of tissues.
The blog is still unfinished,
distractions undiminished.
I need to do the dishes,
and marinate the fishes.
The groceries will have to wait
till some far off future date.
The neighbor is coming over soon,
I’d better tidy up this room.
The telephone is ringing.
My email is ping... » Read More
(This blog should be read with the late Etta James in the background singing "At Last". If you can't do this, at least let "At Last" roll around in your consciousness, however briefly.)A day in the studio means something infinitely special to an artist. A day in the studio means that a long-awaited moment will bring all the hoping and wishing to an end. A day in the studio means fulfillment. At last! Unless you are engaged in the arts, it might be difficult to understand the gift of having a day in the studio. It means a day with all the hours attached, uninterrupted by errands and house cleaning, pet walking and the telephone. It ... » Read More
A long time ago, I was only four years old and living in a body that was easy and accommodating. I could crawl into laps and find welcome there and could make a palace under my grandparents' picnic table or fit comfortably inside the old rubber tire swing in the back yard. My grandparents lived in a tiny clapboard house in the small town of Lewis, Iowa. Pop wore overalls and a hearing aid. Ma wore an apron and horn rimmed glasses and would cackle when she laughed. I loved them. The house had old rusty color patterned wall paper in the main room and a cobalt blue glass dish high on a shelf by a window. Pop's well-used easy chair was... » Read More
The picture before me swirled and out of a thinning blackness,( I could see it if my mind squinted), was a shimmer. It kept disappearing and then would reemerge in a new part of my darkened visual field like a errant ray of heaven. There it was again, the shimmer. First here and then over there, to the right. A bit of substance, vibrating photons that reminded me that I had not died in the night. The brightness became more intense and regular in it's peek-a-boo mind game. I sought it to the right, left and then upwards. Facets of light began to focus and then turn away, gold, green, copper and white. I reached out as far as dreams... » Read More
OK. So I spent time I didn't have to create this web store on Artfire. I'd spent time comparing different (unnamed) web based art sellers and settled on this one. It seemed predictable and right now, that is fine with me. Predictable is good. I actually had no intention of getting caught up in making jewelry. I love lamp shades and stained glass windows but the kiln was sitting in the middle of my studio and what was I to do? The dragon fly lamp shade was sitting unfinished on the soldering table. I needed help to approach the big kiln, a stranger, so the calls went out and friends were invited over and the dichroic glass was spr... » Read More
