My daughter is attempting to break into the photography field. She's attempting to get her work out there by doing promo work for local businesses. She came home today and had some loaves of bread she needed to photograph for her baker. She had a basket but no breadbasket liner. So guess what? Mom made her one for her shoot. At the encouragement of a friend, I've been intending to make breadbasket liners to offer in my collection of linens for sale on my site. Guess now's as good a time as any to get started; specially when you've got all the props for the photography. I now have one up for sale. It is made from the damask creme gingham... » Read More
Here are the photos of two new items I've added to my ArtFire studio today. The avocado placemats on the right are finished and posted. They are a set of six and OOAK. On the left is a breadbasket liner I'm offering which will be the first of more to come. It is made from a creme gingham woven check damask fabric. No, the bread will not be wrapped up in the liner if you order it. Go to my site to see more info about them.Karen... » Read More

Have you ever wondered why the household textiles we use for everyday
use such as bed bath and kitchen textiles are all referred to as
“linens” even though they are not made of linen? Doesn’t make a bit of
sense to me.
I was at a thrift store not long ago and spied a tablecloth I liked.
I looked it over and didn’t find any stains and it appeared to be in
very nice condition, like new. I asked the lady what was the price.
She quoted me the price and I considering the size of the cloth decided
it was a bargain. So I took it to the cashier station to pay. This
same lady came to the station to take my money. At w... » Read More
I have a new handmade placemat set posted on my ArtFire studio. This is a six piece set of which each mat is 15 1/4 x 17 3/4". As for the color: You could call it rust or cinnamon, but it reminds me of paprika and thus paprika describes it best for me.This set is pictured with a country style place setting. But really, just change the setting to something spanish and viola, it's a whole new look. This set is a very adaptable style. The fabric is heavy, the weave is bold, yet very soft. I also purchased this fabric in a couple other colors that I will be presenting in sets soon. Check out my ArtFire studio to see this set and ot... » Read More

On Monday July 9 I will be posting a new six piece placemat set. This set is ecru in color with olive colored threads embroidered in very small rectangles much like the size of dots on a dotted swiss fabric and arranged over the fabric in lines. The embroidered threads are 3/4" apart in a line and the lines 1/2" apart. The under side of the mat will be recognized by the embroidery threads on the underside being white. These mats are sewn with a 3/4" border of the same fabric with machine stitching on both edges of the border. These placemats are 14.5" x 20". The prewashed fabric is 100% woven cotton of a weight almost like a d... » Read More
This is a great summer craft for kids. It's a battle helmet. It can be
used as a teaching tool for a church camp craft to reinforce the message
of Ephesians 6:17, putting on the helmet of salvation. Search battle
helmets on the internet to find designs you like. Make this helmet with
a balloon, newspaper, soda carton, tissue paper and starch. Cut the
lower portion and the strap from the soda carton. Cover with torn pieces
of newspaper. Your helmet needs at least three layers of newspaper
pieces and then your final layer of colored tissue paper. Add "rivets"
made from wads of newspaper. "Spikes" can be made by cuttin... » Read More

I can't believe I've neglected my blog updates here on Artfire. I think I've posted a couple new tablecloths since my last. Shame on me! The HVSF is this Saturday. Dad, my sisters and I will be there this Saturday showing off our wares. Come out and take a peek. I understand this year's fair will host over 100 vendors and this is the 71st annual fair! Wow. I had no idea this event was this popular; I've never attended.I'm also posting a new tablecloth today. It is checked with colors of avocado, grass/teal/forest green, and creme; I'm guessing on how to describe the green color best. Nice, nice crisp fabric yet drapes beautifu... » Read More
Today I posted a new tablecloth design. It is the same lilac cloth I previously have posted but this one is hemmed rather than fringed. So this cloth is visible now on the studio site either fringed or hemmed. I'm sorry the picture is so off. I took the photo out of doors hoping that the natural light would give me a true color. The photos are showing it too blue; its really light lilac. As usual, contact me if you would like a free trim scrap to see the actual color or feel of this fabric. Keep checking back. I'm planning to have some new designs posted for the first of next week.KarenUniquely Handmade... » Read More
Besides the fact that by the end of the weekend I hope to have more new tablecloth designs added, my sister Debi is preparing to add her designer aprons to my site. I've seen them; they're amazing! We are anticipating having them online just after the Memorial Day weekend so be watching. Thanks,KarenUniquely Handmade... » Read More
Today I posted a classic hemmed version of the Gingham-Like Yellow/Jonquil Tablecloth. If the fringing isn't your "cup of tea" perhaps this hemmed version is. By tomorrow I will post the Lilac color in a hemmed version. The color in the photographs is much lighter in the hemmed version since it was taken out of doors with total natural light. The fringed version shows more intense yellow as it was taken indoors under incandescent light. I would say the actual is somewhere in between. To receive a trim scrap showing the true color, contact me; glad to provide it at no cost. Keep checking my ArtFire and Etsy sites. There's more new... » Read More
Hi folks. Here is my latest piece! It's another one of those you picture your grandmother as having on her kitchen table. Here's a little info about toile from Wikipedia:
' "toile", is a type of decorating pattern
consisting of a usually white or off-white background on which a repeated
pattern depicting a fairly complex scene, generally of a pastoral theme. Toiles
were originally produced in Ireland in the mid-18th Century and quickly became
popular in Britain and France. Although it has been continuously produced since
then, it experienced a marked upsurge in popularity around the year 2000.'Toiles seem to be pretty popular today as ... » Read More
