Old Dresser into Dog Bed...

A couple of years ago I scored a dresser on Kijiji for $10. It has been standing in the garage until this weekend. With the sun shining and not really a plan of attack, I started taking the dresser apart.
I have seen the dresser revamps, where a dresser is turned into a bench, but this one was to small. With our puppy Louis playing in the garden, I suddenly new... Louis is going to get his first bed!
I am sorry I do not have the "before" picture... but here is a picture of the dresser in parts... it used to have three drawers.
In this stage we took the top off and the first two drawers out. The top was cut, so it would fit on the bottom drawer. With scrap pieces we made the top trim and used the old drawer fronts to cover the back of the bed. The only unfinished part now where the sides. We found a scrap thin piece of wood around the house and with the grooves already there, we could slide it right in!
We filled some holes, sanded and painted the bed grey and black. All under supervision of our dog who was getting very curious...
In the basement I still had some foam and a grey blanket with cute little dog paws. I cut the foam in the right size and made a cover. Knowing Louis he would otherwise drag a loose blanket all over the house.
I painted his name on the bottom drawer with a little crown on the "i". Added crystals and some of my Keep Calm and Carry On drawer knobs. Voila! His throne was ready!

By DaRosaCreations on 05/23/2013 @ 08:14amThanks everyone for reading and commenting :) And yes, the drawer is still functional!
By PebblesatmyFeet on 05/23/2013 @ 08:03amNow, my dog would try this lovely bed for about a millisecond, then sprawl out on the floor! Maybe if there was room for a head pillow.... This is a neat project and I know it looks better than dog hair and flattened carpet. Is the bottom drawer of the re-purposed dresser dog bed still functional?
By JewelryArtByDawn on 05/22/2013 @ 06:58pmThe re-make of the old dresser into a royal bed is fantastic! What a great idea and I'll bet Louis loves his royal throne! You did a beautiful job down to the last detail.

By PutmanLakeDesigns on 05/22/2013 @ 02:24pmGreat idea. Louis must be so pleased! Hmmm, I wonder if a three drawer chest would work as bunks for my three furbabies?? LOL Ann
By CardsbyLiBe on 05/22/2013 @ 01:58pmOh my goodness - what a brilliant idea!! Love the "Keep Calm" drawer handles - I have a greeting card that matches that! Great job on your first post. Lisa :)
