The term jade is applied to two different metamorphic rocks: Nephrite and
Jadeite is a pyroxene which is part of a rock-forming silicate mineral group associated with metamorphic rock, while nephrite is an amphibole, a variety of that is part of the rock-forming insilicate minerals containing ions of iron and/or magnesium.
Both were used from prehistoric periods for carving.
Jade is said
to have a host of different meanings, depending on the mind-set of the
person wearing it. Jade helps with serenity, inner peace and balance, and
good fortune. It promotes the perfection of self and connection to Spirit.
It strengthens mental faculties and clear reasoning. It is a protective
stone, guarding against accidents and misfortune. It improves dream
remembrance and assists dream solving. As with many stones that are green in
color, it is said to attract money. Many elements of the Chinese language
are connected to Jade. The word "ritual", it is written as "to serve the
gods with Jade".
Found mainly in Guatemala, China, Burma, and Canada.
