Attended my first bead show today, hosted by the company Rings and Things. Just the one vendor, and I still didn't see everything they had to offer.
Upon arriving, you are given a 1"deep x 14"long tray in which to place your treasures, and by the time I arrived at about the 5th table (of probably 50 or more), my tray runneth over!
I doggedly plodded on, up and down the aisles, sometimes finding myself back where I had begun, but again I plunged into the fray to forage more wonderful sparkly stuff.
After about 2 hours I decided I was tired of picking up strands that had unceremoniously slipped from the tray, and found a couple of chairs on which to put my body and my collection.
First I pulled out strands by color, arranging them across my lap, while still pawing through the existing pile in the tray, and found that I had been carried away to the point of extreme over spending. So I decided to eliminate the things that I could get anywhere on line, and that created a third pile, which proceeded to slide onto the floor. As I was picking those guys up, my lap strands decided they would prefer the floor as well, and away went most of them.
At that point I figured I better put back the discarded items, so got everything off the floor, luckily not mixing the two errant groups, placed my "wants" in the tray which I left on a chair, and grasping the "unwanted" in both hands I endeavored to remember my erratic path to replace them. So far, so good.
Next I endeavored to add up the totals of my "keepers", deduct 1/2 price for wholesale, and then take another 15% off that. Of course I forgot to bring my calculator, so old school "add the long column of numbers" went into play.
OK, now I knew I had really blown the budget, but figured, WTH I'm probably never going to go to another one of these, so why not...it's only money, after all...ha, ha, ha.
So I get into a rather lengthy line of other beadaholics, and proceed slowly to the checkout tables. Of course along the way I spy another 3 strands to add to my already incredible total, but simply shrug and continue to my final destination at the far end of the bank of tables.
All in all it was a fun afternoon, and I'm really glad that my niece didn't go with me as planned, as I would have probably been dragged from the room shouting and screaming after the first half hour! She doesn't have a whole lot of patience, and keeps telling me I spend too much money, not something a beadaholic wants to hear when she's having a wonderful time.
I have not yet gone through my bag of goodies, I'm saving that enjoyment for later this evening. Then I'll have to inventory and price everything, but that's a "good" thing.
