Artistic Growth - Part 2 of a Series

As I mentioned in the first installment of this series about artistic growth, thinking about how my work has evolved over the years, led me to wonder how other artists feel about their artistic growth in their chosen field.

Photographer Cassandra Tomlinson of Tomlinson Photography and Design shares her thoughts about this process below:

When I first started as a photographer, most of my inspirations and photographs were from nature. Growing up in the country and being a lover of the outdoors, these photographs came easy for me.  One of my earliest works is of this photograph of a grapevine in the woods.

Soon after I started selling my photography prints, I wanted to set myself apart and give customers something original. This lead me to start capturing textures in the woods that people might overlook. I started to find lots of tiny treasures on trees, on the ground and everywhere. I wanted to show off these little treasures that customers might be missing out on.

After discovering this new love for capturing textures in the woods, I started to see the details and textures in everything around us. I found myself crawling behind and underneath things because I caught a glimpse of something unique. I found new and exciting ways to capture images in new settings and environments.

This new idea has transformed my photographs making them one of a kind original images. I no longer have just a collection of nature images but a collection of one of a kind prints for my customers to decorate their homes and businesses with a modern flair. I still provide a balance of traditional and non-traditional photography prints in my studio for all viewers to enjoy.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, Cassandra.  It's very interesting to read what other artists think about their artistic growth.
