This month's blog carnival topic by the members of the Jewelry Artisans Community is "Nature".

No matter what their medium and that could be painting, sculpture, photography, fiber arts, paper arts or metalsmithing, to name a few, most artists will say that they are inspired by nature in one form or another.

Given nature's bounty of colors, shapes and textures that is not a bit surprising.  Nature is an endless and rich source of inspiration.

Let's take a look at a few examples of what I mean.

Color provided by a stone:

Shape - this time provided by a frog; this little guy spent all last summer living amongst the plants on my deck:

And, inspired this hand painted pendant:

The texture of leaves were the basis for these form folded copper leaves earrings:

As well as this pendant:

Another form of inspiration found in nature is movement and sound.  Whales are a wonderful example of nature sharing these two attributes with the puny humans:

Nature is all around us - all we need to do is open our eyes and ears to see the wonderful gifts that nature has to offer and inspiration will soon follow.  There is nothing like taking a walk, even if it's just around your back yard, to find the limitless possibilities that can be used in art.  Best of all, it's free and just waiting to be discovered!

Thank you for the lovely comments; they are really appreciated. Believe me, I never knew when the red frog would pop out of the flower pots when I was watering and was startled every time!

I like the copper leaves also, great example of what can be done with foldforming. I'm also impressed by your ability not only to capture the frog in your artwork, but to be calm about him living on your porch!

Really like those copper leaves THink my cats would have something to say about a resident frog! When I read this post the first time I read that the frog was living on your desk.... I Love this time of year with all the new plants... I had a garden full of croci and baby irises when i left last week... I'm sure they have alll been eaten by the deer since I left... my cats aren't scary enough!
