Grateful This November

With the holiday of Thanksgiving approaching us, November is always a time to talk gratitude. This year I can truly say I am grateful for all the basic necessities of life. On October 29th, we had a winter storm that caused massive tree destruction and power outages. Except for the main commercial center, my entire town was blacked out. I can't tell you how eerie it was to be in the pitch black and hearing the tree branches snap and waiting for the thud as they hit the ground or smashed into houses. The only time the sky was lit up was when one after another power transformer blew up.
In my case, we were a full 7 days without heat or power. The absolute darkness at 6pm made for an unsettling time of it and as we all emerged this week, you can tell so many of us are still in that fog of no heat, no light, no hot water, no school and the enormous job of cleaning up all of nature's debris.
And so if you were to ask me what I am grateful for this year, I will tell you heat as the temperatures dip below freezing, light as the sun sets early, the ease of turning on the stove and being able to cook, the idea of working phones so I am once again connected to the world. Gratitude for all the basic needs in life. The rest is all beautiful extras.
And before I wrap up today's post, I thought I'd spotlight a card.

I wish you all the basic necessities and the beautiful extras this holiday season.
