I love needle turn appliqué. I love the feel of the fabric in my left hand and the needle in my right hand as I turn under the fabric with the needle and take a stitch. Tiny little stitches, one by one, until the entire piece of fabric is turned under and secure. I must always stitch the piece that is under everything else first and then work my way out until the top piece stands alone and is not overlapped by any other piece. I do this work in the evening under a very strong light. For me, it is a relaxing hobby that I have enjoyed for over twenty years.

I have tried other forms of appliqué, but never am I as satisfied with my work as when I do the old-fashioned needle turn appliqué. It’s just kind of a special bond between the fabric and the needle as one quietly stitches along, gaining ground with each stitch.

I use a very long thin needle. Surprisingly, I can take smaller stitches with this long needle than with a short one. It is so thin that it bends, but that doesn’t bother me. In fact, it helps me when the needle conforms to my way of doing the appliqué stitch.

Here is another one of my applique' pillows. http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/product_view/2884471

I add applique to my pillows, wallhangings and often my table toppers.  Hope you like them and Thanks for stopping by……
