Black really isn’t a color, it is the absence of
color. Black symbolizes grounding, power, self-control, strength, confidence
and resilience. Black has a dramatic and bold presence. It can also be
mysterious, sexy, and sophisticated.
Black is the color of mourning in most western
countries. It can be both positive and negative such as in Western movies where
the bad guys wear black, the good guys wear white. Black is mysterious as in
the movie Dracula who wore black.
How to wear black:
It is a formal and prestigious color for formal attire
parties. Black dresses for a sophisticated and slimmer look.
Wear black to work to convey sophistication, strength,
elegance, and a touch of mystery. Black works well with bright, jewel-toned
shades of blue, green, red, soft yellows. Black provides a contrast to these
colors and really makes them pop out. Layer black outfits with gray and wear
blue shades of jewelry for a conservative look; the blue will convey loyalty
and calmness. A black outfit combined with a pink jewelry gives your look a
feeling of strength yet feminine. Be careful when combining a dark outfit with
dark jewelry, the two will just blend together.
Other black color words:
Ebony, jet, ink, coal, soot, charcoal, raven, midnight,
obsidian, onyx.
