Copper is so easy to work with and has such a lovely
reddish-brown color. I found copper metal is very easy to cut, file, and hammer
more so than sterling or gold. Making this oval copper cross required only a
few steps. Draw an oval template on paper to your desired size, and then draw
an inner circle. Then within this inner circle draw a cross shape. Glue this
paper template onto your metal piece and starting cutting. I like to use scrap
booking stick glue because it is easily removed with water. After cutting,
round the edges with a file. Using a ball peen hammer, texture your metal piece
by placing on top of a steel mandrel. Then drill a hole at the top. Using wire
wrapping techniques, take a 26 gauge copper wire and wrap around the center of
the cross and around each end of the cross arms along with single Pacific Blue
Swarovski bicone faceted crystal. Add a jump ring to the hole at the top
and add three crystals by attaching to the jump ring. Add your favorite chain;
in this piece I used a copper link chain, you could use gold or silver if you
don't have copper.
