Third time's a charm! I finally succeeded in making this Six Peas in A Pod pin back brooch for my grandma. My grandma just recently underwent a hip replacement surgery because she broke hers tripping in the bathroom. She celebrated New Year in the hospital. Thankfully, according to the latest news from my family in Indonesia, she seems to recover just fine.
My cousin passed me the message that she wants something like my
Peas in A Pod pendant () with six peas, with the names of her 6 children inscribed on it, but made into a brooch. I could just make her a metal version like what I had but thinking that she's a fine dresser, the weight of the metal might rip the fine fabric of her dresses. One of her daughters is a
dress maker and always made her dresses using quality fabric such as silk, chiffon, viscose. Wouldn't want to ruin those!
So the solution I came up with was to make her peas in a pod brooch from Polymer Clay. The first pod I made, someone mentioned how it looked like female's private part(!). Oops! Wouldn't want my grandma to be arrested for violationg the
anti-pornography law for flashing female parts. Jokes aside, I made the second peas in a pod to be less wavy but I made a mistake by attaching the pin back right in the middle of the pea pod. It couldn't stand up straight when worn. It flopped around and looked horrible on. The pin back was exposed. Ugly! Last night, felt inspired, I made a new version of six peas in a pod, this time taking a more realistic approach. With much deliberation, I succeeded to make the brooch stays on clothing like it's meant to be. YAY!
Here's my latest version of Six Peas in A Pod pin brooch made of Polymer Clay. Polymer clay made this peas in a pod brooch very light weight. Would be a nice gift for Mother's Day, don't you think? I hope it's elegant enough for my grandma to wear :)
