The pearls are faceted, which is a fairly new art, and took decades to perfect. Not quite round, they have a very slight pear shape to them, which adds to their charm. I mounted the pearls on ball end headpins, and suspended them from silver rings after lightly hammering them, and then giving them a subtle satin finish with steel wool.
