Marc Chagall Blue Circus serigraph plate signed

Product Description
A seriograph of the Blue Circus by Marc Chagall. The print size is 8.5 x 11 inches and the paper size is 10 x 13 inches. It is printed on heavily toothed paper. The signature is on the plate under the trapez lady's crown.

Blue Circus is full of Chagall's symbolism from the fish and bird to the floating lady (in this case coming off the trapeze swing), the horse's head, the moon and the juggler. Chagall had a lifelong fascination with the theatre, dance and the circus.

This is an authorized print either by Chagall or his estate, probably later than the Mourlot edition of the 1950s. This is not numbered and may have been an early pulling as it has no printer's identification. There is also a streak of paint on the back. A serigraph is a screened printing process and much more labor intensive than lithography. Serography is sometimes referred to as pochoir or stenciling because each color is applied in a separate process. In essence it is an original work as each serigraph is hand produced.
