There are over 20,000 species of honey bees. It's not clear at this point what the main or root cause of Colony Collapse Disorder is, but we do know that the honey bee is on the decline. Pollution, chemical toxicity, viral and fungal infections, malnutrition and other factors have been named as possible culprits in the decline of the honey bee.

Why should we care? Honey bees are critical to many crops that are central to the economies of many regions. Almonds, berries, cantaloupe, soybeans, apples, pears and more are all dependent on honey bees for pollination. About one third of our crops are pollinated by honey bees.

This necklace is made in homage to the honey bee. The Melissa was the name given to the high priestesses of Potnia for whom the bee was the main emblem.

The bee has long been associated with royalty and nobility. Wear this necklace and feel like royality!
