Copper leaf pendant with malachite has been made out of 26 gauge copper sheet which has been heated and folded to create a leaf using a technique known as fold forming.

After the leaf was shaped and cut out of copper sheet, the surfaces were buffed and polished to reveal shiny copper while some heat darkened areas were left alone. The edges of the leaf have been filed to a smooth finish to reveal additional copper.

The back of the pendant has not been altered and the colors are 100% the result of being heated with a torch.

A malachite bead dangles from the center of the leaf pendant for visual interest. The necklace consists of malachite and copper bead components that have been paired with oxidized copper chain for an elegant and understated look.

A hand crafted oxidized copper hook clasp completes this beautiful necklace.

The warm, rich brown of antiqued copper combined with the vivid green of the malachite is a stunning result.

Fold forming was invented by Charles Lewton-Brain in 1980 and is a before unknown method of working with metal. The British Museum Research Lab and the Rolex Awards for Enterprise have certified that Fold-forming is new and has not been done before in the history of metal working.

Metal is heated, hammered, folded and unfolded in a way that lets the natural properties of the metal help determine the final shape of the item.

The necklace measures 19 inches / 48 cm in length and leaf pendant is 1.5 / 3.1 cm long.
