Product Description
The toothy grin of the two-tone yellow and turquoise vintage car in this photo might fool the viewer into thinking they're looking at a 1950s Buick, but that bulbous, bathtub-like body should immediately put an end to any such confusion. The 19501 Nash Airflyte Statesman rests on the lush spring grass just off a gravel road that curves behind its rear bumper, reappearing again in the front just beneath the chrome front bumper on the right side of the photo. The body of the Nash is mostly a pale springy yellow, but this two-tone classic car is capped with a turquoise-tinted green above the vehicle's windshield and windows. The yellow and turquoise are a pretty contrast with the green grass and trees behind the slightly rusted classic car and pale blue sky behind the Statesman coupe.

Vintage Nashes such as this one always make me smile when I come across them at car shows or places such as this almost pastoral scene (just typing that sent images of Nash automobiles frolicking through green fields and beside trickling streams). The car's chrome grille, gleaming in the sunset in this photo, unfailingly appears to be smiling at its viewers, the silvery vertical and horizontal bars inside the oval grille only making the smile of the yellow-and-turquoise Nash Statesman seem wider.

Giving this classic car photo a rather "old movie" look is the golden light of the Missouri sunset washing over everything--the 1950 Nash, the trees, the grass, the dirt road curving from left to right behind it. It almost brings the car to life, in a way, making the yellow Nash stand out against its background.

Most people love or hate the Nash due to the very thing that makes this now-classic car stand out: its streamlined, Art Deco styling branded "Airflyte" by Nash, but "upside-down bathtub" by its critics. The car's partially-covered wheels certainly did not help matters much, nor did the line of three windows mimicking the curve of the roof. But the sight of this tub-like car brings a smile to the face of many a classic car lover, and I hope I've captured the fun of these early postwar Nashes with my 5x7 art photo.

Though the Nash's yellow and greenish body has started to show signs of neglect--a dusting of dark orange rust has appeared on its fenders, hood, roof, and running boards--this car art photo shows that the car's chrome is unpitted and undamaged as of yet--though if the Nash sits as captured in the photograph for many more years, the chrome trim, too, will soon show its age.

When I first released this photograph for the perusal of my fellow photographers and vintage car buffs, there was a great debate about whether the automobile is a 1950 or '51 Nash--even whether or not the 1950 models had the hood ornament seen on the Statesman here. Much perusal of other Nash photographs has led me to determine that the car in this photo art is indeed a 1950 Nash Statesman--mostly due to the fact that the automobile's rear end was squared off in the 1951 model, but in 1950, it retained that "Miss Upside-Down Bath Tub of 1949" look, with the rear end curving all the way down, over the rear window and right to the rear bumper. If I am incorrect, feel free to make your case with me, as I would very much hate to be incorrect!

Professionally printed on archival-quality 5x7 photo paper, this vintage car art photograph of a yellow and turquoise 1950 Nash Statesman has a white border for easy framing and to protect the image itself. I sign, date, and number each photo on back prior to mailing it.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
As the 1950 Nash is loved or hated for its tub-like appearance, I couldn't help but title this vintage car art photo "Tub On Wheels". That one of our nicknames for our cat, Buckley, is "Tub" is something we won't discuss any further. (I hope.)
