This handmade medallion pendant features alternating rows of glass seed beads in warm shades of red, yellow and brown, suspended from beaded daisy chains.

I created the circle pendant with brick stitch, adding new rows of seed beads and African Christmas beads around the red glass center for a pretty concentric ripple pattern. The final row is done with picots, for a pretty fringed edge.

The pendant is attached to a pair of simple, lightweight daisy chains with round glass accent beads in different sizes. The solid beaded flowers match the colors of the pendant, and follow a simple repeating pattern. The necklace is finished with a beaded button and loop clasp.


Dimensions: The medallion is 3.9 cm (1.5 inches) wide. Each necklace chain is 23 cm (9 inches) long, for a total length of 46 cm (18 inches), including the clasp. The beaded button is 1.6 cm (0.6 inches) wide.


I created this necklace with opaque glass seed beads from Japan, glass African Christmas beads or love beads, and Czech pressed glass druks. I weave all of my jewelry with durable fused nylon thread, using multiple thread passes for lasting strength.

The warm shades of yellow, red and brown in this piece are both soothing and festive. The palette is evocative of harvest time, August evenings, and circus tents, and would look great with summer and fall fashions.

The pretty concentric patterns of brick stitch medallions are one of my favorite creations. I really enjoy finding new combinations of bead shapes, colors and sizes to use with the technique. For this necklace, I wanted to blend colors that are cheerful and earthy.
