I am enchanted with the beautiful red coral "rose petals' that are used in the front of RAMBLIN' ROSE, a unique handmade necklace! Created with red bamboo coral, white freshwater pearls and sterling silver, this necklace would make a fabulous addition to your one of a kind (OOAK) jewelry collection. This beaded beauty was handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs.

The stars of the RAMBLIN' ROSE necklace are the wonderful top drilled red bamboo coral "petals". Because the pieces are top-drilled, when strung together, you can see they alternate, one up and one down. This adds fabulous texture and interest to the necklace and looks so fascinating on! And to add even more interest, you can actually see the flower design of the coral polyp - like flowers from the sea! In the interest of full disclosure, the red bamboo coral has been dyed. Natural bamboo coral is a creamy white but takes a dye extremely well.

To add extreme elegance to RAMBLIN ROSE, luminous white freshwater pearls were used on the sides and back of the necklace. The nacre of these pearls is amazing, such a lovely soft glow to each and every one. The shape of these pearls are called baroque because they are not a perfect round shape but are more oblong, some with a somewhat flat side. Her again, because they are baroque pearls, much texture is added. I personally think these pearls are more interesting than perfectly round ones! The pearls are strung in groups of three with a 2mm sterling silver bead separating each group. Please note, that these are white pearls. When photographed against a white background, they appear more cream color, which they are not. Pictures #2 and #4, taken on a black background, show their true color best.

To separate the red coral petals from the pearls, sterling silver Rajasthani saucer beads were used. These beautiful beads were handmade in the state of Rajasthan in northwest India. The feature intricate twisted rope work around each bead hole and a double row of the rope design around the middle of the bead (see photo #7). Since they are handmade, they are not 100% identical - that's what I love about handmade! Sterling silver 2mm beads frame the top and bottom of the Rajasthani beads.

To finish RAMBLIN' ROSE, the two ends were crimped to a sterling silver toggle clasp set. As you can see in photo #9, the design here is also a twisted rope design. A perfect finish to a unique necklace!

Red Bamboo Coral helps the wearer to understand and value all life on Earth. Pearls are said to spread loving vibrations. Silver is the metal of love and healing.

RAMBLIN' ROSE is a truly beautiful necklace, a true one of a kind piece!. i would wear it for dress up - imagine it with a little black dress or other party wear! Of course, I would definitely wear it with my usual uniform, a pair of faded blue jeans and a white shirt. RAMBLIN' ROSE will become a favorite necklace!

I love the look of red coral and white pearls with some sterling silver thrown in. The red coral petals reminded me of red rose petals and, for some reason, I was humming Nat King Cole's version of "Ramblin' Rose" - that's how the encklace got its name :)
