A green velveteen cushion tops this one of a kind pincushion made with a ceramic shoe figurine for a base. The repurposed shoe is an old fashioned style womens heel with a metallic gold painted buckle on the front. The shoe figurine is a soft baby blue color with pink bell shaped flowers and small green leaves painted on it. The foot opening of the shoe has been firmly stuffed with polyester fiberfill and covered with a dark green cotton velveteen.

I say why have boring when you can have fun? This pincushion will add a sweet cheerful touch to any sewing task and is much more fun than the standard pincushion from the fabric store.

The shoe measures about 6" from toe to heel and stands about 4.5" tall. The pincushion area measures approximately 3.75" X 1.75".

The decorative pins pictured are included.

I have added felt pads to the bottom of the shoe to protect whatever surface you may set it on.

Use of pincushions is first recorded in history in the 15th century. Pins and needles were expensive and needed to be kept safe. During the Victorian Era (1800's) decorative novelty pincushions came into vogue. Since needlework was a usual part of a girl's education during this time in history a pincushion was a necessary tool. A pretty pincushion was suitable for display in the parlor to be ready when needed.

I love to treasure hunt at thrift stores and find things that can be repurposed into new items. This sweet little shoe just begged for me to take it home and make it useful once again. It is in perfect condition and now has a new life to lead helping you or your favorite seamstress.
