You are looking at a new handcrafted summer rag quilt entitled SEASHELLS!

The top of the quilt is made of 80 squares: 40 squares have been cut from an assortment of cotton summer and vacation prints and 40 squares have been cut from a solid lemon yellow quilting cotton.

Prints include ice cream, picnics, sailboats, lighthouses, beach, and seashells, as well as prints of Strawberry Shortcake and Sesame Street.

The back of the quilt is made of 80 squares: 40 squares have been cut from the same solid lemon yellow quilting cotton used on the front and 40 squares have been cut from a solid light orange quilting cotton.

The lemon yellow squares on the top of the quilt are backed with lemon yellow squares on the back of the quilt. The summer and vacation prints on the top of the quilt are backed with light orange squares on the back of the quilt.

Sandwiched between the top layer and the back layer of each square is one layer of a soft and fluffy bright yellow cotton quilting flannel.

All of the squares were cut six inches and were sewn with the traditional "X" to hold the three layers together. The raggy edges are all half an inch, making the squares all five inches after sewing. All seams have been stitched twice.

This rag quilt measures approximately 40x50 inches, and is eight squares high and ten squares wide. It's the perfect size to display over the back of the couch, in the rocking chair, over the back of an easy chair, over the foot of a bed, on a child's bed, as a wall hanging, or to cuddle up with for a nap. It would make a wonderful gift or a unique summer decoration in your home with the solid yellow and orange colors being the colors of the summer sun.

All of my fabric has been washed and ironed prior to cutting. This rag quilt has been washed and dried once to begin the ragging process. It will get softer with each washing. Machine wash on cold (use two rinse cycles) and dry (empty the lint filter often). Be sure to wash and dry this quilt by itself as it will shed onto any other items washed or dried with it.
