Details

This listing is for 15 illustrations loose and removed from the book of which they were originally a part.

Among the many works of the artist Phillip Reisman was a set of illustrations he did for a 1939 edition (in English) of Tolstoy's classic tragedy, _Anna Karenina_. The originals were done in watercolor, and reproduced in color in the book.

This set of 15 illustrations were separated from the copy of the book sometime before I found them at an estate sale. They are otherwise in good condition, with some slight yellowing at the edges. They are blank on the back, but have a dark line where they were once attached to the binding of the book.

You will get the exact 15 illustrations pictured in the scans above. These are actual book pages, not copies. Each illustration is one full book page loose. They measure just over 8" x 5" (20.5 cm x 12.7 cm). They would be great for collage or for framing.

I will mail these to you by USPS First Class mail with a cardboard backing to prevent damage during shipping.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

Anna Karenina is one of the classic and tragic love stories of all time. Once I got an unabridged audio book out of the library and it was a good thing, because I was crying so hard at some points I wouldn't have been able to read a book. Not only that, but at other points it made me late to my college classes because I just HAD to hear the end of the scene.

More Info

Please note that while it would be fine to incorporate the actual book pages into your artwork, these illustrations should not be scanned or digitally copied. Since they were published in 1939, they are likely still copyrighted.
