Product Description
This 30" Hardwood Sycamore Walking Stick has a lemon oil finish. Sycamore wood is a close grained hardwood used in furniture making. When fresh cut is a brown and pink color. When dried it resembles red oak.

I made this walking stick from a scyamore tree that was felled in a nearby neighbor's yard. I sawed it into boards with my alaskan mill which is an attachment I fix onto my chainsaw. After the boards were cut I set them up to air dry for one year. This is important to prevent warpage of the finished product.

Once properly dried I rip the boards down to a smaller size that can be milled on my lathe. After the upright is milled, I prepare the top handle and secure it to the upright. I hand sand the entire piece to ensure a smooth finished product and put on the rubber tip on the end. A laquer sealer and lemon oil finish is applied to protect the wood.

Every stick will be one of a kind and unique since this is a real natural product.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
My inspiration for making walking sticks came about because my wife asked me to make her one to take on her evening walk for support and also for protection from aggressive neighborhood dogs. Since then, everyone has been asking for one.

More Info
Wikipedia reports that the sycamore tree is unique in that it sluffs off its outer bark as it grows because of the rigid texture of the bark tissue and lacks the elasticity of other trees to expand its size.
