Anyone would be proud to own this statement of faith. I created this Catholic rosary as a tribute to our brother and sister Catholics in China, where keeping the faith as a Catholic Christian is a sometimes complicated matter.

The Ave (Hail Mary) Beads are of a dark, black onyx stone; the Pater (Our Father) Noster Beads are large, beautiful Chinese porcelain, with distinct and different patterns for each bead. This is a chained rosary; the chain, crucifix and centerpiece and chain are of a silver finish, lead-safe, base metal for durability and long wear.

Believe it or not, Catholicism has a rich and intricate history in China. Catholicism is called "The Religion of the Lord of Heaven", and has existed in various forms since about the 8th century.

Three men -- Xu Guangqi, Li Zhizao, and Yang Tingyun -- are known as the "Three Pillars of Chinese Catholicism", much like James, Peter and John are known as the "Pillars of the Church" in the western world. I'll talk about them more in my blog.

China can also lay claim to its own Marian apparition, much like those in Fatima and La Sollette. Our Lady of China appeared to the Chinese beginning in 1900 in the city of Donglu, where a shrine has been built to her honor. There are many beautiful Madonnas that portray Our Lady as a beautiful patrician Chinese woman, proudly and tenderly holding her son in her arms. I included one of these in my Madonna and Child section of glass tile pendants.
