Painting on old barn wood. You can see the holes where it had been installed.

The artist work is charming and haunts your soul when you are viewing it. So I don't know if you call the subject a Franciscan brother, monk or friar.

Shabby, country, cottage, primitive, style in good vintage condition.

Approximate 23 1/2 inch by 8 inch by 1 inch This is a smaller piece but you will love it and be honored to display in your gallery.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

Name: Brother Matthew Gallagher, O.S.F.

Born: September 25, 1923

Died: June 1, 2007

Brother Matthew, O.S.F. formerly John Gallagher of Morristown, New Jersey, entered the Franciscan Order in 1956.
After serving in the Army during World War II he attended the Newark School of Fine Arts. Upon graduation he opened a religious book store and art studio, where he could teach his beloved handicapped. It was through one cerebral palsy student that he became interested in the Franciscan Order, culminating into his joining this Community.
