The neon-orange Asiatic lily in this photograph is was of my garden favourites in the garden of my West Virginia home. Every spring, the dark green leaves of this lily would erupt from the earth, seemingly overnight, followed not long after by these flaming orange blooms. The fiery, almost day-glow bright flowers are definitely hard to miss, and even the hummingbirds seemed to enjoy checking these blossoms out! Every year, the clump of orange lilies in my garden grew larger and larger-drawing more and more creatures to them.

Just beyond the orange petals, tinged with shades of peach and gold, we can see a patch of green in the distance, contrasting beautifully with the brightly coloured flower. The stamens of the bloom are covered with chocolate- and coral-pollen, matching the pretty brown speckles on near the lily's throat. The stamen and pistil rise like the beams of an orange star or firework from the throat of the lily, making this an almost festive nature photograph.

These lilies, with their almost unearthly orange brightness, followed me to two apartments until I finally had my own garden to plant them in. The flowers wasted no time in rewarding me for several years of care by exploding into a profusion of coral-orange blooms every spring thereafter!
